Beginning Face Painting
About the course
This class is suitable for those who are either complete beginners or novices with a little experience. It is a hands-on class for those who may want to simply paint at their children's next Funday, realise their creative side, or who want to consider a career in Face Painting. However, most people will gain something from this class as they will relish the time and space to practice whilst being watched, guided and encouraged to stretch their boundaries and learn some new skills.
The first section of the class is extremely important. This will give information on:
- health, safety, hygiene and cleanliness
- explanation of the kit
- FDA accredited safe paints
- various types of brushes and sponges
- care of yourself, particularly your painting position and your back
- child protection, parental permission
- copyright issues regarding use of photographs
- recognizing infectious diseases and when not to paint the face
- Public Liability insurance
. and that's before we start painting!
Once on to the practical, topics covered will include:
- sponging and blending
- brush control and hand position
- consistency of paint
- thick and thin strokes
- fluency and speed
- curves and teardrops
- colour combinations
Most of this practice will be on your own arm or leg, or even your painting partner's face!
Your instructor will demonstrate some simple classic faces, for example a tiger, a butterfly, a princess, a cat or a dog. Each of these will incorporate a variety of skills learnt from the practice. After the demonstration, the students will then paint each other, putting into practice all they have learnt earlier in the day. Throughout the day, the instructor will help, advise and answer questions from individuals as time allows.
